I, too, like the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists by Mike
Venezia. They are published by Children's Press, Chicago. Although they have
large typeface and are fairly simply written, they are appealing to kids
because of the cartoon illustrations. They also include regular
reproductions of the artists' works. I even use them in my classroom in high
school, especially for poor readers. I also like the Metropolitan series
What Makes a _______a __________. I purchased mine through North Light Book
Club, but am sure they are generally available. Does the D.E.A.R. program
require that they read a novel? If not, why not go ahead and use Scholastic
Art or ArtNews for Children?
