Would it be appropriate for 3rd grade to use linoleum cutters
with soft-cut carving material? This quarter begins a Japanese
unit that involves 3rd grade and a 4/5 class predominately.
I would like to begin with carving a name stamp that they can
use on subsequent art projects as a signature.
Any tips for teaching carving to this age group?
Other projects I'm considering might include a family crest
design (also carved), tea bowls in clay, paper dyed/folded
kimonos (not full-size, maybe big enough to display on a
stand of some sort?). Suggestions and tips welcome!
Thanks,
Deborah
