Davis Publications has EXCELLENT middle school level books.
http://www.davis-art.com/textbooks/index.html ...and as a bonus for you?--
You get lots of lesson plan ideas by looking at the student samples at the
end of each chapter. I hear our own Bunki Kramer has student work in one of
the new ones. Why don't you call Davis - tell them you are looking to
purchase a class set. My guess is they will GIVE you one copy of each
publication to evaluate. Ther are five middle school books now. I have and
use "A World of Images" and "Art: Images and Ideas". I bought one copy each
of the new ones though.
Davis also has excellent high school and elementary series. It would be
well worth it to ask for their catalog.

Subject: Art Books/Novels....help?
Our school is reinstating the D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) program
and my principal has instructed me to purchase a couple of class sets of
books. While I tout the program to be literacy based (thanks to Scholastic
Art, etc.)....I haven't the foggiest where to find a series of novels that
address art topics or artists.
....oh, and as if the topic weren't tricky enough - the material should be
written for the middle-school level.
Help!?? Surely all you fabulous experienced art educators have some
suggestions. (note: please include publisher and/or purchasing info if
possible)
Mil gracias! ---
