This video - from Kultur Video (http://www.kulturvideo.com/index.cfm) - is
great. Well worth the price ($24.99). "George Segal:American Still Life"
chronicles the life and work of the internationally acclaimed sculptor,
whose life-size plaster casts can be seen in museums and public spaces
throughout the country, from the FDR Memorial in Washington to the Port
Authority Bus Terminal in New York. Several clips of Segal in action -
showing his molding techniques. The main narration of the video is George
Segal and his wife. The video is a shade over 55 minutes long -- If need
be, some of the art critics could be fast forwarded without losing over-all
content. I intend to show the video in one 41 minute class (so I will do
some serious chopping). Sections suitable even for the wee-ones - but video
is geared to middle school and up. There are some parts that do get
boring -- omitting them won't hurt the essence of the video.
