Breaking contract

---------

I broke a contract and did not have my credential taken away. I gave the
prinicpal notice--two weeks or whenever she found another teacher to take my
place. Well, they had another teacher within a week. She thanked me for
giving notice and not just walking off the job, as she said several others
had done. She said she would recommend me to substitute teach, as I
requested. I am gradually finding out about things I should have known.
For example, I found some textbooks, thanks to this group. I wasn't born
knowing how to teach a whole year of drawing and sculpture--I'm a
printmaker! I found out how the local people use the car pool lane to get
across the bridge--I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to. I've been
getting better on classroom management too. Well, you get the drift. I
just wish I wasn't so old to start a teaching career. It helps to have
parents who are teachers--you don't have to learn everything the hard way!
I sure do miss the money--subbing is half the salary of a regular teacher.
I hope to someday get another full time art teaching job again. I'm about
to apply for my clear credential and a supplementary authorization in
English.
