RE: breaking a contract

Melissa,
I haven't done it, but did consider it last year when I taught world history
and art in my middle school. My principal said that social studies teachers
are a dime-a-dozen to replace (geez, thanks!) and that it wouldn't really be
a problem to replace me if I left at the semester break.

I got the impression that if I recommended a number of candidates for
interviews (both in art and social studies) that it wouldn't be a problem.
I also was planning to leave for a "teacher-on-assignment" position with a
county office of education; so the perception was that I was leaving for
bigger and better things. I don't know how willing my principal would have
been to let me go if I just wanted to change schools or districts as a
classroom teacher.

This is in California. The general feeling I had was that it is up to the
school/district to decide how hard or easy it is for teachers to "break
their contract" mid year.

Hope this helps.

charged
$250.00 if they break a contract.!!! Roberta
