advice on painting a bookshelf

Hello all,
I need some advice on painting a bookshelf with my 5th grade advanced team. I
need to write up a requisition for supplies and am not sure what paint I
should use for the project. My first thought was acrylics for the detailed
work of Tromp l'oeil on the back. But what should I use for the overall basic
coat? Laytex? There is already two primer coats. The bookshelf is roughly 5
feet by 2. Im terribly afraid of ordering wrongly and making a mess of it all
while appearing a fool. I am a first year teacher but dont want to appear
silly.
Please help. Anyone with a similar project in the past?
