Thank you Susan from Long Island, NY on your thoughtful post. I second that!
I BAN my students to draw that symbol in my class (it is also a gang symbol
here in the inner city of Chicago). My kids know they will hear from me in a
big way if I see that symbol of hate, destruction and death in my classroom
as well as if they attempt to wear the gang colors, gang jackets, hats turned
backwards, earrings on boys, etc. and enter my classroom wearing all of this
garbage. All of this is not allowed!!. I will also call the parents or
whomever is the guardian and inform them about their kids' "Artwork." In my
own small way, I am trying to stop this madness-- so important, especially in
these times.
