I always do gesture drawing with my students, and this term, instead of
using the students as models for a minute each, I decided to try to use
slides of humans painted by various artists. I had mentioned the day we
started talking about drawing humans that in art school you spend a couple
of years drawing nudes for hours a week. The kids all groan or say they
want to be in art school, etc. Then when we were trying to draw the
various poses they instantly understood that it's very hard to understand
and draw human form when it's covered with yards of material. They no
longer feel that artists are a bunch of pervs.
