He should have been fitted with a tight fitting stretch glove(s) to keep his
fingers separated and to lessen contractures. Usually made by a company
called Jobst and fitted by an Occupational Therapist. Web space involvement
can be a huge problem if these gloves are not worn. If it is a financial
situation that is interfering with the quality of his care, Shriners burn
centers are the best when it comes to dealing with children burn victims,
both at time of event and follow up. Don't know how comfortable you might be
    in suggesting this though.
In the mean time, the more he uses his hands the better, both for circulation
and range of motion. As long as the skin in intact, (no abrasions, open
wounds) contamination should not be a problem, though the scar tissue will be
    somewhat more fragile than normal.
Most of all, I'm sure he just wants to be a "normal" kid, so as much as
possible have him do what everyone else is doing without focusing on his
disability. Kids have a remarkable way of adapting!
    Good Luck, Lorrie
