Regarding teacher salaries, I can see that some folks are surprized by
the salaries in Calif. If you are with a good district, they can be even
better. The cost of housing and commuting is high but you can't beat the
lifestyle. One of our great art teachers in the district came out from
Kentucky a few years back and is glad she did.

On the subject of inkjet printers, our digital arts lab has an Epson
Stylus 900 that is networked to all the stations, an Apple 8500 laser
printer for proofing and black and white work and an HP DesignJet 1055
that generates 36" wide prints (roll paper or sheet). The cost of the
color and black cartridges for the HP is about $150 EACH! That's four
large cartridges. I almost had a heart attack when I found out. But we
needed it for posters and for the big prints of plans generated by the
Architectural Design classes.I am getting lots of requests for posters,
so we will work out a per sq. foot price to generate funds to keep it
running (in addition to lab fees.)
