This reminds me of a discussion about a young lady who would not talk
in the presence of adults. She was highly intelligent and her teacher
had over heard her reading in pairs (quite well too) until the girl realized
that the teacher was over hearing her. neither of these things not speaking
nor making marks is most likely a long lasting situation. Attempt to
find out
if the child's development is normal in other regards, if it is be patient.
