Dear Artsednetters:
A Saturday morning thought to your question about uses for giant quantities
of black and brown tissue....
Students can fold over individual tissue sheets until they become
thick flat relief strips (paste close the ends) that can be used as weft
and/or warp for paper weaving. Lots of creative ideas can emerge for
extended uses and the students, especially at the elementary level, can
acquire some skill in small motor manipulation of paper. To make the strips
longer, fold on the bias.
Here is a weekend funny that speaks to some of the previous posts
about papermaking. Many years ago I was involved with bookmaking at OSU's
Logan Elm Press and Paper Mill. The director went to an international
papermakers' conference in Boston one year and came back with a bumper
sticker that read....
"PAPERMAKERS GET FELT BETWEEN THE SHEETS!"
