    Our county maintains an "approved" for all instructional materials.
    Approving media is not a big process, but it does offer you some protection.
     As for copyrighted characters, I discourage the kids from any work that
    isn't original. I also tell them that if they create their own characters,
    they should fill out copyright forms and send them to the Copyright Office.
    I've known people, wh as kids, sent their characters off the comic book
    companies, were officially rejected, then saw their characters turn up
    in magazines under someone else's name.
