     I give Daily Progress grades
    >of 25 points, based on how much is actually getting done

        I generally don't give daily points for an independent project. However,
    I do keep a running record whether or not the student works that day. At the
    end, I then use the record as a means to determine certain parts of the
    evaulation. (For instance, one part is the ability to stay on task. Another
    is respecting others and not annoying them. Behavior is a larger issue
    here.) Just food for thought.
