Hi All...I've been previewing some videos this evening. I sent away for 4
from Teacher's Videos with extra bonus $$$ I got two weeks ago. With this
company, if you buy 4 you get one free. All are ony $29 each. We had
discussed a long while back about listing your favorites and not-so
favorites so I thought I'd share what I have this evening. These are only my
personal opinions and they might differ from yours so bear that in mind.

I'll preface the first selection by telling you I bought my all-time
favorite video "Masters of Illusion" about 3 years ago. This excellent video
discussed briefly the artwork of Han Holbein...specifically "The
    Ambassadors" and included anamorphic art.

The video I saw tonight is called "Holbein's Ambassadors - Making and
Meaning". It's an excellent 30-min. video on this painting. There is some
history about the painter but I personally liked the discussion of the
symbolism in the artwork and how the anamorphic foreground was possibly
created. I'd rate this one an A.

My second favorite is called "Gargoyles - Guardians of the Gate". A bit long
but fascinating study of gargoyles around the world. Includes the history of
these sculptural creatures back to 600 AD, discusses midevial times, and up
to the present time. Lots of samples. Good video to possibly present before
doing gargoyles in clay or paper mache. Runs 56 mins. I would definitely use
this one. A- ...(due to length).

Third one is "Nevelson - Portrait of an Artist". Short 30 min. video of this
woman who possesses an unorthodox personality who chain smokes her way
through the process of creating her sculpture. I was fascinated because I
found her so unique. I liked it and wouldn't mind showing it to my mid.
schoolers. A- ...(chain smoking bothered me)

"Sandpainting - A Navajo Tradition" at 37 mins. was way too long for me
because I found it boring. The technique was interesting but the host and
hostess were hard to understand 1/2 the time and repeated much of what was
said many times. Sometimes they'd wander into the Navajo language and lose
you completely. C-, D...forget this one.

I was looking forward to "Face to Face with Giacometti" because he's one of
my favorite artists. Well...the video certainly wasn't. Long 55 min.
discussion by Giacometti which was translated by the host. Black and white.
I lost interest 5 mins. into the video. I can imagine what my students would
say. Zippo on this baby. Boo-hiss, F.

Anyone else seen some good videos? Toodles..............
