kiln temp question

    HELLO!

    Yesterday I fired my kiln, attempted to a cone 05. I know I have a dead
    element, and I thought the previous teacher (this is my first year at this
    school) said that she used to go to a cone 05 wtih the dead element, and
    there were an abundance of boxes of 05 cones. However. It never made it.
    Upon searching high and low i did find one box of 06 cones, and maybe thats
    what she had switched to. Anyway, my question is: Can I assume that it
    fired to a cone 06? What should I do about glazing? My glazes all ask for
    cone 04, or "to witness, cone 05". Does this mean Im dead meat if i try to
    fire all this beautiful pinch pots at only an 06? Will it still work? I
    realize I need to get this fixed but can I get by for now? I don't know the
    techno on this ive never had an element die etc... My glazes (and
    underglazes) are low fire Amaco brand.
    any info would be great. Hopefully good news? :-)
