Since we are on the subject, how do you all implement your writing? At the end of each class...at the end of an
assignment...on a certain day each week? I do essay assessments about each assignemt. I also take a day every
week or so to do an activity based on aesthetics that usually involves writing. The North Texas site that has
been mentioned here has many wonderful aesthetic ideas. The Davis book by Marilyn Stewart is also very good. I
am putting more emphasis on aesthetics and reflective writing with my art I and 7th grade art class in hopes
that as they continue through my program, the writing part will become just as routine as the studio. I am
currently involved in this wonderful program we have here in Arkansas called the Teacher Institute. It is part
of a larger program called the Arkansas Leadership Academy. Imagine the very best staff development you could
attend at a resort in the mountains with lots of wonderful FOOD. Plus it is FREE. The cost is covered by
corporate partners. The main component of the institute is to identify a teaching practice you want to improve.
Mine was to help my students experience more of the intellectual side of art. My students are keeping writing
portfolios that are separate from their sketchbooks.

Sorry to go on, but in a state that is often at the bottom of the educational ladder...this is an outstanding
    program.

I would appreciate any thoughts you have on ways to comfortably incorporate writing,

    Amanda
