I AGREE! although my wife hates it... Everytime I bring home a box of said
"junk" the first thing out of her mouth is "that better be going to school!"
*l* It's gotten so bad that none of our friends will throw anything away
without calling and seeing if I want it first...

It all started during my first teaching job when two of my mentors (at a
different school-I was the only art teacher in a 50 mile radius) won EVERY
year at National Scholastics with artworks their students had made from
things dug out of a dumpster... I have some pictures if anyone is
    interested.

Dumpster diving can pay off too if you know where to dive. Example: a BRAND
NEW, never been used copy of Adobe Premiere, pulled from a dumpster behind a
computer consultants office (was marked: for your evaluation--I'm sure he
    had gotten it for free...)
