Ijust finished a class at the Dallas Musuem of Art on art and storytelling.
Choose an art work that has some easily recognized objects, action or
people. Discuss the painting with the students as a group discussion and try
to find some connections. Try using an artwork such as a Faith Ringgold
storyquilt. You can also make connections with Ringgold by reading Tar Beach.
Next, have the students find one aspect of the painting that they can relate
to and write a story about what is happening. You can also have then make
paper quilt squares about what is happening in their story and include the
story underneath.
