On this one, I have to agree with Joseph. The San Francisco MOMA had a big
retrospective of his work. I was excited about seeing it and couldn't wait
to go. Imagine my surprise when I stepped into the huge gallery room and all
the sexual imagery blasted me to the point of being stunned. I'm not a
prude, mind you. I can pretty much accept anything...but this one blew me
away. ..and we're not just talking about noses in butts here. Young kids
were barred from this exhibit. You had to be a certain age to enter. I
wouldn't call this message to kids priceless either.
Whenever I see his other less extreme work now, I can't enjoy it for what
it's worth because of the above experience. In some way I feel as if I have
been cheated. Can't explain this feeling other than that's the way I feel.
