Lost and found, as I understand it, is where the contour line in the subject
is not continuous, but stops and starts in some places, so as to have the
contour meld with the background. One might see this happen when the values
of that portion of the subject is similar to the value of it's surrounding
area: i.e. a place in deep shadow. The viewer forms the delineation in the
mind. It is a good technique to use in painting and drawing, to hold the
interest of the viewer.
