Poor fine motor skills--how to assess fairly?

I'll be getting a new student in my Art Foundations class (for 5th and 6th
graders) in a couple of weeks, and a couple of teachers suggested that I
    should read his file.

I have, and among other multiple, complex conditions (such as unmedicated
ADHD, Tourette's syndrome, etc.) he has very, very poor fine motor skills.
I've had the opportunity to meet him, and while he might be a bit of a
challenge in some ways, he's quite an intelligent, engaging boy.

When a student is working to the best of his or her ability and making good
use of class time for art production, that goes a long way in my book. But
I know that some of the projects that I have planned for this group (of
highly capable kids) will be very difficult for this boy.

Can anyone suggest adaptions I should make on projects, or changes I should
make regarding how I assess--particularly in the catagory of craftsmanship?

    Thanks!

    Sharon
