It is my understanding that in Wis, the legislature passed some policies /laws
that should protect your right to teach. Ask your union about it. We went over
the how it effects our rights at the beginning of the school year. If the
student is disrupting the class- out he/she goes. Of course you do need to keep
documentation of how he is disruptive, and how many times he has been removed,
and yes there are some special stipulations for the EX ED population.
A couple of years ago , a had a severe ED students who was very distructive,
nothing I tried seem to help. His ED teacher told me " Stop beating you head
against the wall trying to figure this one out".
Sometimes you just can't save them all. The problems at home are sometimes so
very serious that it takes more than what we are able to do. I think his words
helped me, because I kept thinking if I kicked him out, I was failing.
Remember the the baggage these kids are carrying , is often due to years of
problems in their life. They won't dissappear in a day , week or month. It
might take years and that might not even help either if they keep living under
the same circumstances at home.
