Hey Gang,
I had a great day! The kids were good. I wasn't expecting that. The are
grades 9-12 and on a block schedule. Today I saw half of the students. I had
3 total classes with a planning period and lunch. The classes were long but
the day went very well. I talked to each student and also each table of
students (12 tables per class) to get a feel for what they would like to
learn from me. They all want to do clay. We don't have a Kiln and we have
limited space and very little money. (I will put up some of my own money.) So
what do yall think about Sculpty? Will it be too expensive? Approx. 130
students. I thought we could do some small things. I have a toaster oven.
They love the idea. We could do small figures, animals, shaped objects,
jewelry beads (necklaces) or pins. Where would you recommend I get the
Sculpty? One of the Art teachers had a bad experience with the self
hardening clay you put in the water. Others mentioned plaster or wire
sculpture. Any advice will be very much appreciated. I have some time to
prepare for this and I plan to make examples. Thanks in advance and thanks
for all of the well wishes.
Janice
