I dont know if this is what you are thinking of, but I just completed a great
unit with my middle schoolers based on cubism that I feel is applicable to
any age level. i taught them about analytic and synthetic forms of cubism,
and explored Picasso's early work as it developed from realistic portrayals
into highly abstract work. Then the students compared and contrasted the two
forms of cubism in note form. Finally, the kids were asked to create a
portrait of their favorte toy using analytic or synthetic theories, or a
combination of both. They were given free reign in terms of size and media
and were able to develop art that reflected their own personal style. As an
assessment they had to identify elements within their work that reflected
different forms of cubism. The kids loved the freedom, and learned sooooo
    much !!
    Good luck,
    Amy R.
