Although I teach at an elementary level- I have successfully used the metal
foil for etchings on several occasions. (only fifth graders) Buy the 38 gauge
because it is the easiest to work- not too hard. It comes in a variety of
colors, depending on the outcome you want - gold, silver, copper is really
nice. I cut some pieces of foam core (it gives enough so the metal will move
) and use this as the working surface.
I always make sure the edges are wrapped around the foam-as the metal can CUT!
We usually mount them on another piece of board and put mattes on them since
they are small- Can't afford huge pieces - They turn out very nice with some
great textural effects.
