I have had an experience with a severely ED girl (8th grade). She loved
being in art class, but her personality would change like a light
switch...one moment she would be sweet and loving, the next she would be loud
and yelling profanities...Keeping me tense and distracted from teaching. Her
regular spec ed teachers decided to use art as a privledge for her and hold
it over her head as an incentive to behave. For a while the student would
bring in a blue sheet that I would have to sign daily reporting her progress.
If she did not get a certain amount of points, she would not be able to
attend art the next day. I really appreciated her regular teachers looking
out for me in the situation! Maybe something like that is a possibility...
