Janice,
Hi, my name is Janet. I started out just like you. I student taught grades
7-12 for 16weeks. My advice with the 7-8th grade is to make sure rules are
clear and short and consistently inforced. Try to make up lessons you feel
will challenge but be successful for them. Do not criticize negatively -
try to be as positive as possible. The 9-12th graders are "aware" of much
more than you could ever dream. Since you are so close to their age, do not
fall into the trap of identifying with them constantly because you're young.
Remain professional, but try to be fun too. There's a fine line. You'll
discover it quickly. Talk openly to the teacher you will be student
teaching with. If you have open communication with that person, you cannot
go wrong.
Good luck. E-mail me anytime if you need anything.
