I am not sure what you mean by traditional methods. I teach basically at
an alternative ed school for grades 7-9. It is labeled as a school for
students who need extra academic help. Just yesterday we were identified by
the state as an at-risk school. If I can be of any help, just drop a line
(or two!). :)

Sorry to use such an indefinite, open-to-interpretation word! I guess by non-traditional I mean in line with "child-centered", "constructivist", or "discovery-based" philosophies. I have recently read "The Schools our Children Deserve", by Alfie Kohn, and "Education on the Edge of Possibility" by Renate and Geoffrey Caine, and was extremely impressed. I reccomend them to anyone interested in moving beyond the traditional educational model!
Is your school a charter school? I hear that the charter movement is fairly strong in Michigan.
Thanks for your input!
