I do weaving in the round with my 6ths using 9" wooden embroidery hoops. Two
people can share one as you only need one hoop. I have them tie on 17 warp
threads with tension. Tie one side, bring yarn to opposite side and tie. The
17th goes only from the hoop to the center and it grabs all the other threads
at the center, by weaving around them for about 1". Then the kids figure a
pattern.. like every 3 threads and skip one..all the way around. They weave
from the center out. It looks better if they leave open areas, like a
checkerboard, or spaces between a set of weavings. Wish I could show you.
Also...before they start the weaving, but after they threaded the hoop, I
have them wrap the hoop in yarn and secure the tied ends of the warp threads
UNDER the wrapping.
We finish by using feathers, pony beds as dangles and even in the weaving.
Tassles are another embelishment. They always turn out great!
