    Why not let the students invent"the perfect planter"???
    Experiment :
    with/ without saucers, wicks for watering ?, pebbles v.s. gravel v.s broken
    pottery in the bottom?.
    Potting soil mixtures: part sand , sterile soil, vermiculite or maybe
    styrofoam packing peanuts??-
     glazed v.s. unglazed ( evaporation)-
    Colors in back of the pot reflecting light,
    perhaps some music?,
    Or what's the best fertilizers: fish emulsion? , time release capsules? or
    water additives?---- oh this could be very interesting......
