Hi Ruth --
Some things I do with elementary sculpture:
Kdg: Color sculpture (mixing 2 primary play-dough colors),
Line sculpture (wire -- I use twisteez),
Texture sculpture (clay with impressed textures),
and then, since they like play-dough so much, they make necklaces by
threading playdough mini-sculptures onto yarn (I thread the blunt needles
first and tie them off later)
1st grade: aluminum foil sculptures,
and we also do clay for Cave art
2nd grade:papier mache egyptian treasure bowl,
white paper straw sculptures to study 3-D line,
animal textures in clay
3rd grade: plaster carving (Renaissance tie-in)
4th grade: relief sculpture -- African mask design tooling foil,
coil pot
5th grade: Cut-up ceiling tile sculpture, reinforcing right & acute angles
and use of color to direct eye,
wire (I used electric fencing wire) figures wrapped with plaster
craft.
Hope this helps!
