If you do clay, we made Egyptian Tombs out of white low fire clay.
After we fired them we painted them with metallic tempera paint. They
included symbols of things important to them (students) on the sides.
We also carved in the sides and lids before they were fired. I found
pencil points to work better than needle tools, especially for the
details to be painted in later. Some students painted in the carved
lines with black tempera and used water to spread the paint. The
students had a BLAST doing them, plus it overlapped their curriculum in
Social Studies.
