Early Childhood through Middle Childhood/Art Teachers The National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards (NBTS) and Educational Testing Service (ETS)
are currently developing classroom-based performance assessments for teachers
who are seeking National Board certification. National Board certification is
based, in part, on a portfolio compiled by the candidate during the course of
the given school year. ETS, a sub-contractor to NBTS, is now seeking art the
participation of Early Childhood through Middle Childhood/Art (EMC/Art)
education professionals to pilot the portfolio entries. These entries, based
on NBPTS Standards, are designed to reflect activities that teachers engage
in naturally during their workday. They enable teachers to sample their
practice and reflect on that practice through written commentaries. For one
portfolio entry in the EMC/Art assessment, pilot participants will be asked
to videotape a lesson, collect instructional material and write an 8-page
analysis of their teaching. For another entry, participants will be asked to
collect samples of student work, assessments and assessment artifacts and
write an 8-page analysis of student learning and of their teaching. Total
