hi everyone. Im hoping there's some ideas out there for this one! I have
a third grade class, one of four, which has a terrible dynamic of student
personalities. many of these kids have issues of various types
(parental, social skills, learning dis. etc), and are average to below
students. Though i don't think they are supposed to "track" at my school,
it seems that they have. Anyway, they have a really hard time working
together...i dont mean on a project either, i mean simply in the same room
with each other. The energy or tension is high, their personalitites are
strong, but always seem to be in opposition. (I don't think that their
classroom teacher models the best positive behavior either) I try to kindle
a trusting, comfortable, supportive atmosphere and slowly teach them the
skills and vocabulary of working together, or dealing with each other -
social skills while were together, but it is difficult to constantly be
teaching them these things and the project. Does anyone have a good
project that could work towards this goal of integrating the 2. Im looking
for something that is not just a group project, but maybe one which the
focus is an intimate community, or building friends/relationships or
Something. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
anna
