Re: High School Sculpture

I just finished a relief sculpture with mat-board/chipboard constructions
that are taped and glued together. These are geometric shapes of circles,
boxes, rectangles, triangles etc.

The designs are drawn out and the chip board is cut so that the construction
will go together in pieces.

Using glue and masking tape construct the forms and tape the edges to keep
their shape. Build cross pieces of board inside to give strength and
support. Like making a wall with beam supports.

When dry, cover the piece with wallboard putty. This is applied with cards
and spatulas and layered over the tape and all over the surface. Rough it up
with putty knives and then scrap over with a flat surface so that it looks
like a rough rock wall.

Gesso the surface when dry to seal it. Apply a dark tone of neutral brown
over the entire surface, (I use Acrylic). With a dry brush effect drag the
surface with lighter contrasting tones to give it a surface texture and color
of stone.

Glue this to a colored Matt-board and Matt with a good color and viola I
looks like a stone relief, but is very light.

Just a thought.
