Just had to reply in support of our elementary school nurse. She works part
time in our building (500+ students) plus 3 other schools. She is run
absolutely ragged each day by doling out massive quantities of prescribed
medication (lots of ritalin); running tube feeding sessions for several
students; checking for head lice, pink eye and other skin problems; checking
on medically fragile special ed. students; dealing with seizures; riding the
bus one way every day for a special ed. kid who has a court order for an RN
to be available during transportation to and from school; does home visits
and fills out med./soc. reports; attends IEP meetings; tracks down tardy or
truant kids; deals with social workers; the list could on and on... she does
a phenominal job and gets paid peanuts. I would not want her job for a
million bucks!
