Not sure of the one in NY, but there's an incredible one in the San Fernando
Valley (L.A.) The gardens are magnificent - there's over 80 varieties of
bamboo and a bonzai are. There's a tea room built in Japan specifically for
the location which was labeled, torn down, transported, and re-erected.
Another really neat aspect of the gardens is that it's part of the Donald C.
Tillman Water Reclamation Plant. So they have all the water they need!
Plus fish, herron, cranes... One completely loses the fact that they're in
L.A.

P.S. As you can tell, I love the Japanese Gardens here and am lucky enough
to play Gamelan music concerts there a couple of times each year...
