I like Larry's "general to specific" painting strategy. I also do soemthing
like this as a warm-up early in the painting class, but I show a slide VERY
out of focus and have the students paint the blurry colors in the values
they see, then I focus it a little more and have them paint on top of their
initial painting, focus a little more, etc. They are usually very surprised
at what they end up with!
