pillar
of strength to uphold the other academic subjects. Can you imagine them
telling a fourth grade teacher or a math teacher, or a science
teacher......."Oh sorry, but you don't have a room anymore."
This is so RIDICULOUS!! Well I ramble.
Basically, I agree with the message above. However, I would also say to
comply and do your best while you look for ANOTHER job. I wouldn't want to
work for people who have this attitude towards the arts in education.

I agree in theory with what's been said but I can only talk from my own
experiences. I work in a good school in a safe neighborhood 15 minutes by
car from my house. I teach high school art in a tiny room with one sink that
is usually backed up and I thank my lucky stars every day that I have this
job. It is not easy to find great art jobs today and I would never tell
anyone to leave an existing job where they have tenure, especially an art
job. You have to evaluate the situation and make your own choices. The kids
can learn without intricate supplies. I'd rather have a good teacher and bad
conditions than a bad teacher in good conditions. Good luck to you and by
all means if something terrific comes your way, then look into it. Eileen
