We have block scheduling at my high school and I REALLY enjoy it. The
classes meet for 90 minutes every other day. I have three classes a day
and a conference period. Every other day, I spend half of my conference
period doing duty. It is usually hall duty where I can still get some work
done.
Coming from middle school with daily 45 min classes, I really expected to
get a lot more done with the block schedule. I have been disappointed in
this. The classes are more enjoyable, less rushed, but no more work gets
accomplished in the long run. I think this is because the high school
students are difficult to get motivated. They don't rush anything and many
of them only want to do the minimum to pass. Getting them fired up and
eager to push themselves is my biggest challenge.
