9 classes a day is outrageous!! and Carolyn's day sounds like a dream
come true. I teach elementary and we have 6 50-minute periods per day. A
friend in a nearby district has a 7 period day but gets her elemnetary
kids twice a week instead of once like we do. She makes up the specials
schedule at her school and schedules the 2 classes back-to-back for 80
minutes - can't remember how she uses that 7th period, but it's not all
planning. Our district will be in negotiations this year and have to add
minutes to the school day. We are lobbying against 7 periods for
elementary art.
