I beg. I literally ask any and every committee at school (and community)
for a contribution to my goal. I pay for the state convention out of my
pocket but the biggie (NAEA) is all up to everyone else. In the past I've
asked and received $$$ from the Magazine Committee, the Site Council,
mini-grants, and the PTA. All teachers in our district are allowed two days
a year for personal leave which I save for this. I was blown away by the
Magazine Committee this year. I asked for $300 from them and they, in all
their munificence (yep...that spelling didn't look right to me either but
it's correct), gave me $600. Think they're trying to tell me something?
I follow up with humble appreciation and thank-you letters. I've also been
usually asked to present a demonstration with photo overheads of what I did
and what I learned. This is great PR for the next time I ask. That's why my
camera is my constant companion at NAEA.
Anyway....if you don't ask, you don't get. Between you, me, and the rest of
the 1000 people on this list, I'd go if I had to pay the whole durn tootin'
thing myself! Toodles.........
