If I'm not mistaken, the painting of The Wedding Feast by Breughal which
hangs in the Detroit Institute of Arts at one time had been altered so
that the men's codpieces didn't reveal quite so much about "how happy
they were" to see all the women present. And how many times has nudity
in publicly displayed works of art been painted over in order to
"protect" the viewers from what the censors believed to be
inappropriate? The treatment of the stamp is nothing new. I like Craig's
idea of drawing the cigarette back in! I can envision hoardes of
artsednetters raiding the post office to buy all the stamps so they can
"restore" them - or not! - to get their point accross!
But wait! Does anyone still get regular mail??? Maybe someone in the
mailroom at the utility companies will notice the effects of this
discussion!
