Sara,

A colleague doing a project on Mexican clay suns came in last week with a wonderful book she found at the library called "Sky Gods". The author is Katherine Komaroff, publisher: Universal Books, 1974. It has great images of the sun motif from various cultures. I haven't checked to see if it is out of print; it would be a great resource to have on hand.
