I teach k-2ndg. Many of the teachers are getting over the flu, myself
included. Unfortunately the last stage of this flu ends with laryngitis. By
the time I arrived at school today, I too, had lost my voice. The first
grade teacher did something amazing to help me with discipline. Normally I
have several very distruptive students in this class. Today, before
entering, as they stood in line outside the door, she made them take an
oath, raise their right hand and solemnly promise to keep quiet so I would
not have to try to raise may voice. It worked! They were wonderful. I
recommend trying this technique for other discipline related issues. Of
course, don't overdo it, or it will loose its effectiveness. Good Luck.
Sincerely, Diane L.
