Art I Survey concentrates on the elements and principles of design.
We start with contour-continuous line, shape and composition where they
are to use a 6x9 piece of paper (using 100% of paper)and cut it into
either a realistic, conventional, or abstract design into a composition
that fits on a 9x12 white tagboard. We then study value and form with
charcoal using a still life. In color, we too create a color wheel,
intensity and value chart, color harmonies, as well as color matching.
Our final painting is to develop a composition that has a minimum of 50
spaces and choose one color harmony to use. Again must use a minimum of
50 hues. Following color, they create a clay piece that is hollow with
concentration on texture. Finally, they choose an artist, complete a
research paper, and create 3 pieces from the same chosen work. They
first create a reproduction of the work using a grid and colored
pencils, then using conventional or stylized form; cut and paste with
construction paper from the same piece as the grid, and lastly using
abstract design in pastel.
