Thank you for the insight into this area. I think it is an important
concept to get across to students. I've found the best way for me to sneak
it in is when I teach about the history of photography, that before the
fuller development of this technology, the artist had basically one of
three "jobs" religious "expression," portraiture, and keeper of history.
Once the camera came along, two out of three were moot. I don't think it's
any coincidence that the Armory show was less than a quarter of a century
after the first succesful photograph.
