Fred Babb is an amazing artist from California, who recently had a book
published, "Go to Your Studio and Make Stuff." In it are some of his many
drawings and paintings, and a brief story of how he came to be an artist.
He does wonderful paintings with pithy written statements. In addition to
his original works, he also had a great eye for marketing and some of his
works have been reproduced on t-shirts, notecards, clocks, jewelry, mugs,
ties, hats, etc.
What Iz Art?, is the name of his former studio/gallery on the coast of
California (the gallery is still in existence). He now lives in the Redondo
Beach area, I think. Some of his statements, that of course go with his
artworks, include: Art Can't Hurt You; What iz Art?; Good art won't match
your sofa; etc. He did two posters, that are included in the book, that
specifically address art and children.
His book is a poster book (the pages can be removed), and retails for
$15.95. I have one copy that I took the pages out of to display in my
office and home (and get great comments on them), and another one he signed
at a booksigning we held in the fall. If you can find a copy of the book,
you won't be disappointed!
